Located in the Pazarkapı area of Trabzon's Ortahisar district, overlooking the sea, the Hanife Hatun Mosque is one of the most remarkable religious and cultural structures the city has gained in recent years. This structure, which offers a modern interpretation of Trabzon's historical identity shaped around mosques and complexes, is designed not only for worship but also as a comprehensive complex integrating education, culture, and social life. Construction of the Hanife Hatun Mosque and Complex began in 2019, and it was opened for worship with a ceremony on July 11, 2025. The first thing that caught our attention upon visiting is the magnificent architecture of the building. The mosque stands out with its design inspired by classical Ottoman mosque architecture and traditional Turkish-Islamic architectural understanding. The large main dome rising in the center of the structure, surrounded by domes of varying sizes, and the four minarets give the mosque a very impressive appearance. The fact that the main dome is approximately 42 meters high and 22 meters in diameter further emphasizes the monumental character of the structure. The mosque's interior is designed to be illuminated by natural light through approximately 250 windows of varying sizes. The mosque's appearance becomes even more impressive, especially in the evening. The lighting used in the minarets, dome, and facades highlights the stone architecture of the structure, while also adding a different atmosphere to Trabzon's evening skyline. Thanks to its proximity to the sea, the mosque, when considered together with the extensive recreational areas surrounding it, stands out as both a place of worship and one of the city's important meeting points. One of the important features that distinguishes the Hanife Hatun Mosque from many other mosques is its extensive concept of a complex. We see that the structure is not only composed of a place of worship. Within the complex, there are classrooms, a conference hall, workshops for work and art, a soup kitchen, social service areas, a fountain, sales units, and various resting areas. The project also includes social facilities such as a 14-classroom educational area, a 700-seat conference hall, and a 500-seat soup kitchen. Thus, the mosque was intended to serve not only religious life but also education, culture, art, and social solidarity. Today, Hanife Hatun Mosque stands as one of the important contemporary representatives of Trabzon's religious and architectural identity, alongside the city's historical mosques. When you visit this mosque while touring Trabzon, you have the opportunity to see not only a large and magnificent mosque but also a modern complex that aims to bring together worship, education, culture, and social life under one roof. Especially with its location overlooking the sea, its illuminated minarets, and extensive landscaping, Hanife Hatun Mosque welcomes visitors as one of the striking landmarks added to Trabzon's modern city skyline.
