About the Event
The 27th International Bird Language Festival, held in Kuşköy, a village in the Çanakçı district of Giresun, aims to preserve and pass on Bird Language, one of the region's most unique cultural values, to future generations.
At the heart of the festival is Bird Language, a form of communication based on whistling used to communicate over long distances between valleys. This tradition, included in UNESCO's List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguard, is showcased to visitors through performances, whistling communication events, cultural gatherings, and various festivities throughout the festival.
This year, the main gathering of the festival, held between September 4-6, 2026, takes place in Kuşköy, where Bird Language is preserved. Here, visitors have the opportunity to both learn about this interesting form of communication and experience Giresun's regional culture and traditions.
