The İznik Obelisk is a remarkable Roman-period funerary monument surviving in the countryside of ancient Nicaea. Also known locally as Beştaş and Nişantaşı, the monument is distinguished by its unusual form created by large marble blocks rising one above another.
A Greek inscription identifies the monument with Gaius Cassius Philiscos. Standing approximately 12 metres high today, the obelisk is an important archaeological landmark for visitors exploring the Roman heritage of İznik.
