Butterfly Valley

Butterfly Valley is a natural valley located between Ölüdeniz and the village of Faralya, part of Fethiye, nestled among the steep cliffs where Babadağ drops sharply into the sea. Within the valley, traces of the ancient Lycian settlement of Perdicia can be found, showing that the region has been home to human settlement for thousands of years. The valley's current name was given by a photographer who discovered the area in the 1980s, after which ecological tourism facilities were established there. Thanks to its microclimate features, the valley is home to more than 80 species of butterflies, including the Tiger Moth, rarely seen elsewhere in the world. The butterfly population reaches its most intense period in July and August. Inside the valley there is a waterfall, natural pools, and trekking routes, making it a preferred destination for both nature observation and adventure tourism. Access to the valley is generally provided by boats departing from Ölüdeniz; there is also a hiking trail descending from the village of Faralya.
