Located within the boundaries of Muratbaşı (Valla) Village in Pınarbaşı district of Kastamonu province, in the Küre Mountains National Park, this is one of Turkey's deepest canyons. With wall heights reaching 800-1,300 meters in places and a length of approximately 12 km, it is frequently referred to as the "second deepest canyon in the world." It starts at the confluence of the Devrekani and Kanlıçay rivers and extends towards the Cide district. It was formed by the erosion of limestone layers by rivers. The canyon's steep cliffs are home to birds of prey such as eagles, vultures, hawks, and falcons, as well as other wild animals. Crossing it is extremely dangerous; it is impossible without professional equipment and a guide. It gained notoriety in 1994 when Istanbul Technical University students got lost here and emerged 14 days later near Cide, and it has attracted the attention of nature lovers with its description of a "Wild Paradise."
