Mardin Museum

The Mardin Museum operates in a uniquely beautiful historical building constructed in 1895 by the Patriarch of Antioch, Ignatius Behnan Banni, as the Syriac Catholic Patriarchate. Presenting one of the most magnificent examples of traditional Mardin stonework, this elegant three-story structure was restored and opened as a modern museum in 1995 after being used for various religious and administrative purposes for many years. The museum's rich collection exhibits thousands of artifacts spanning a wide time frame from the Bronze Age to the Assyrian, Roman, Byzantine, Artuqid, and Ottoman periods. Tablets, seals, coins, mosaics, and traditional silver jewelry unique to the region, reflecting ancient Mesopotamian cultures, take visitors on a fascinating journey through time in the city's deep-rooted and multi-layered historical past.
