Located in the historical Sur district of Diyarbakır and unique in Anatolia, the Four-Legged Minaret was built in 1500 by the Aq Qoyunlu Sultan Kasım Bey. Rising on four solid basalt columns, this unique minaret symbolizes the four main sects of Islam, while the body of the minaret represents the oneness of Islam. Accompanied by a local belief that the wishes of those who pass under it will come true, this elegant structure is one of the most important symbols reflecting Diyarbakır's mastery in stonework and its cultural richness.
