Marshal Atatürk Monument

Reflecting the spirit of the early years of the Republic, this magnificent monument was created in 1927 by the Austrian sculptor Heinrich Krippel and has since become one of Ankara’s prominent landmarks.

The monument depicts Mustafa Kemal Atatürk standing in his military uniform, his hands resting upon the hilt of his sword. A tall stone pedestal, adorned with relief carvings of wreaths on its front face, complements the monument’s powerful and striking appearance. This stance symbolizes the victory achieved following the War of Independence, the determination involved, and the historic journey that led to the founding of the Republic.

Situated in one of the busiest parts of Ankara a place where traces of the past converge with contemporary urban life the Victory Monument is more than just a sculpture; it is a significant historical symbol that keeps the meaning of the struggle for independence and the formative years of the Republic alive. As you explore the Kızılay district, you might pause before this monument to sense the unique place Ankara holds in the history of the Republic.
