Şanlıurfa Castle

Şanlıurfa Castle stands on Dambak Hill overlooking the Balıklıgöl plateau and is one of the landmarks that shape the historic skyline of the city. Traces of settlement around the site date back thousands of years, while much of the surviving fortification walls were built during the Abbasid period in the ninth century. The castle's most striking features are two monumental columns, each about fifteen meters high. According to local legend, these columns are associated with the catapult that King Nimrod used to throw Prophet Abraham into the fire. Today, Şanlıurfa Castle is one of the best viewpoints for seeing Balıklıgöl and the historic city from above. Its ancient walls, local legends, and panoramic views offer visitors a memorable cultural and visual experience. It is especially impressive at sunset, when the city can be seen stretching across the landscape belo
