Located in Antalya’s Kaleiçi district, the Karatay Madrasa is one of the important historical structures that has survived from the Anatolian Seljuk period. It was built in 1250 by Celaleddin Karatay, an influential statesman of the Seljuk era.
The most striking surviving feature of the madrasa is its monumental portal, decorated with geometric and floral motifs. The building is considered one of the important examples of Seljuk stone craftsmanship in Antalya.
Today, the Karatay Madrasa hosts cultural events and is one of the notable places to visit in Kaleiçi for those who want to discover Antalya’s historical heritage from the Seljuk period.
