Bodrum Ancient Theatre

In the heart of Bodrum, nestled against the southern slope of Göktepe, stands a monumental structure that has endured for millennia: the Ancient Theatre of Bodrum. This positioning—perfectly aligned with ancient theatrical traditions—endows the theatre with a unique character, both acoustically and visually.

As one of Anatolia's oldest theatres, the structure was built during the 5th and 4th centuries BC, under the reign of the Carian King Mausolus. Like almost all ancient theatres, the Bodrum Theatre comprises three main sections: the *skene* (stage building) where actors performed; the orchestra area, characterized by its semicircular shape; and the *cavea*, consisting of the tiered rows of seats for the audience.

This historic structure, which once hosted theatrical plays and performances thousands of years ago, has not been abandoned to silence today. Revitalized by periodic concerts, the theatre offers visitors a unique experience by blending its ancient atmosphere with modern art.

While sitting on the stone steps overlooking the magnificent Aegean vista on the slopes of Göktepe, one can share the same emotions felt by the spectators who sat in that very spot millennia ago. With its unique setting where history and art converge, the Ancient Theatre of Bodrum is a must-see destination for anyone visiting the region.
