Located in the Ortaca district of Muğla, the Dalyan Canal is a natural waterway approximately 10 kilometers long that connects Köyceğiz Lake to the world-famous Iztuzu Beach. Formed over millions of years, the canal is notable for the labyrinth like appearance of its reed beds when viewed from above and is ranked among Europe's best-preserved natural areas.
The canal serves as a vital natural habitat, home to 180 bird species. With its unique blend of fresh and salt water, expansive sandy beaches, and rich vegetation, it offers visitors an exceptional nature experience. The region also provides access to Iztuzu Beach, a nesting ground for the endangered "Caretta caretta" sea turtles.
Rich in history, the area surrounding the Dalyan Canal is distinguished by the ancient city of Kaunos; the Lycian rock tombs carved into the cliffs are among the most photographed sights during boat tours. Visitors can explore both the natural landscape and the region's historical heritage by traveling through the reed beds on traditional tour boats.
Easily accessible due to its proximity to Dalaman Airport, Dalyan is one of Muğla’s most visited nature and history destinations, welcoming approximately 900,000 domestic and international tourists annually.
