Welcome to the Durupınar Formation in the Doğubayazıt district of Ağrı, a site suggested to be the resting place of Noah's Ark. First spotted in aerial photographs in 1959 by Captain İlhan Durupınar, this ship-shaped natural formation has long attracted the interest of both the scientific community and visitors from around the world.
A comprehensive, officially authorized scientific research program was launched in the region in 2026. Led by Sivas Cumhuriyet University, the project investigates the formation's structure through geophysical surveys and core drilling to obtain subsurface samples. However, the studies have not yet scientifically proven the presence of Noah's Ark at the site; the findings require analysis and independent scientific evaluation. A remarkable intersection of faith, history, archaeology, and geology, this site is one of Ağrı's research locations that sparks global curiosity.
New findings from the ongoing scientific research will enable a better understanding of the true nature and history of the Durupınar Formation.
