Old Ottoman Charitable Foundation

I would now like to introduce you to the Old Ottoman *Hayrat* (public charitable structure) located in the Ortahisar district of Trabzon. Reflecting the social and cultural traces of the Ottoman era in Trabzon, this historic charitable structure is regarded as part of the *waqf* (pious endowment) tradition that once served the needs of the public.

In Ottoman urban culture, such charitable structures—including fountains, mosques, *madrasas*, and soup kitchens—served as vital hubs that met the community's shared needs. A great number of such *waqf* works and charitable structures were established in Trabzon, particularly during the Ottoman period.
