Samandağ Ney is a traditional wind instrument made from reeds grown in the Samandağ district of Hatay. Selecting and drying the reed, arranging its nodes, and opening the finger holes all require skilled craftsmanship, while the natural structure of the material gives the instrument its distinctive tone. Closely connected to Samandağ’s reed-growing and handicraft traditions, the ney is an important cultural product reflecting the region’s musical heritage. Used in traditional performances, it preserves both local craftsmanship and generations of production knowledge.
